Top priority to conclude border area projects in Punjab for enhancing Army’s operational capability

Utmost priority will be accorded to conclude all ongoing projects initiated in the border areas of Punjab to enhance the operational capability of the Armed Forces. This was agreed upon, during a meeting between the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann and the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, in Chandigarh on Thursday.The Army Commander had called on the CM to discuss issues related to civil-military synergy. This was the first meeting between the two since Lt Gen Pushpinder Singh took over as the reigns of the Western Command on April 1.Matters pertaining to border management, internal security, youth empowerment, rehabilitation of Agniveers, important land acquisition cases affecting operational preparedness, disaster management, recruitment in the Armed Forces, welfare measures like housing projects for serving personnel and veterans of Army were discussed during the meeting.Also present at the meeting were Chief Secretary, Punjab, KAP Sinha, Brig Sameer Thakkar from Command Headquarters and Col Jasdeep Sandhu, Advisor, Civil Military Affairs, Western Command.The meeting has further strengthened the civil-military synergy in the region and enhanced the confidence and trust towards joint policy coordination, internal security and response to natural disasters, external threats and other crises, a spokesperson for Western Command said.In April, Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh had called on Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Governor of Haryana, at the Raj Bhavan, marking his first interaction with the civil administration, after assuming his new assignment.Discussions between the Governor and the Army Commander focused on civil-military synergy, welfare of ex-servicemen and border management, reaffirmed the strong bond between the Indian Army and the state administration.
