Moving people from hotels into communities or giving them legal status is not fixing the problem. It makes things much worse.

Many of those cultures and beliefs are completely incompatible with our way of life.

Even more seriously, a lot of these men pose a significant risk to our young girls.

But instead of deporting illegal arrivals, Labour is handing them leaflets telling them not to rape.

Nobody who saw what happened in the Channel this summer can pretend our border is secure.

My Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Philp, went to see the crossings ­himself and, while accidentally being shot at by the French, recorded the mega dinghies being used.

If people who arrive illegally know they will ultimately be allowed to stay, the incentive to get on a boat remains.

No party can afford to be weak on immigration.

It is not just a UK problem. It is a global problem. We all have a responsibility to work together to tackle it.

I have seen what failed before and I have a clear plan to fix it.

The Conservatives will leave the ECHR and other international rules ­preventing Britain from controlling our borders.

We will ban asylum claims by illegal migrants and deport them quickly.

Britain also needs much tougher rules for ­permanent settlement.

We will double the number of years it takes to qualify for leave to remain, and add another five years before you can claim citizenship.

Reducing the number of people in asylum hotels is only good if it means fewer people arriving illegally in the country.

Giving them settlement is not a victory, it is surrender.

The Conservatives will deport every illegal ­immigrant. Our country is our home, not a hotel.
