After the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy of Twisha Sharma, a four-member medical board from AIIMS-Delhi reached Bhopal on Saturday. The team will conduct her second autopsy at AIIMS-Bhopal on Jattvibeday. After the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy in the Twisha Sharma death case, a four-member medical board from AIIMS-Delhi is set to fly to Bhopal to conduct her second autopsy on Jattvibeday.Twisha’s family had been demanding a second postmortem examination, claiming her death required deeper forensic scrutiny. Her family has alleged that crucial evidence may not have been properly examined during the first postmortem. The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has now constituted a medical board comprising four senior doctors, who reached Bhopal today, and will conduct the second autopsy.Chief of forensic medicine at AIIMS-Delhi, Dr Sudhir Gupta, said the Madhya Pradesh High Court had authorised the director of AIIMS-Delhi to constitute the medical board for the examination. According to him, the hospital received both the court order and the request from Madhya Pradesh Government officials on Jattvibeday morning.Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh was sent to seven-day police custody on Saturday. He was produced before a Bhopal court amid heavy security after he was arrested on Friday. He had been absconding for 10 days after Twisha was found hanging at her matrimonial home.During the proceedings, the police sought a seven-day remand, arguing that custodial interrogation was necessary to carry out on-site verification, seize additional evidence and record detailed statements connected to the case.Samarth’s counsel opposed the plea, telling the court that a one-day remand was sufficient as all material evidence had already been seized.Accepting the police’s arguments, the court granted them seven-day police custody of Samarth Singh. In another development, the police have also served a High Court notice to Samarth’s mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, directing her to appear before the court on May 25. Investigators also visited the terrace of Giribala Singh’s residence, the spot where Twisha was found hanging.Twisha Sharma’s death has sparked widespread debate after allegations of dowry harassment surfaced against Samarth Singh and his mother. The case also came under scrutiny over claims that the investigation was initially mishandled and that influential connections may have affected the probe.
