A CBI team, in a follow-up action of suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar bribery cases, raided the Punjab Vigilance Bureau office in Mohali late Monday evening and detained a reader of a senior officer over alleged involvement in corrupt practices.Though no official confirmation of any arrest was made by the CBI or the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, Akali leader and former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia claimed on X that the central agency “recovered Rs 13 lakh from a vigilance official in a Rs 20 lakh bribery scandal”No vigilance or Punjab Police official responded to repeated phone calls or messages.Suspended Punjab Police DIG Bhullar, a 2009-batch IPS officer, was arrested by the CBI in October 2025 in the bribery scandal. The allegation was that he conspired with his aide Kirshanu Sharda to demand Rs 8 lakh from a scrap dealer—partly to settle an FIR against the complainant at the Sirhind police station and partly as a monthly payment to let him run his business.A special CBI court in March 2026 took cognisance of the case, noting that electronic evidence, witness statements and a “controlled call” between Sharda and Bhullar prima facie established criminal conspiracy. A separate disproportionate assets case was also registered against both by the CBI and Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
