The 20-year-old had been at the tower with two friends as they planned how they would celebrate his milestone birthday the following day, the EDP reports.

It is understood Oskar climbed to the top of the mast before slipping in the wet weather conditions and plunging 150ft.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, raced to the scene at around 11pm, but the Polish national was pronounced dead there.

The tower is believed to be a popular spot among local youngsters, with many said to have climbed it in the past.

Heartbroken loved ones have since paid tribute to Oskar and vowed to “keep his memory living on”.

His partner Ruby Ashton said: “We have been dating for a year and we had our whole life ahead of us.

“All he did was make me laugh every day and make me feel like my life was so worth living.

“He was most happy around his friends and family and he will always and forever be remembered with us.

“I love you Oskar/Bandz, forever in my heart, never forgotten.”

Friends Leo and Bill described Oskar as a “good friend who always put a smile on their faces”.

They added he was “always there for people when they needed him and he will forever be missed and in their hearts”.

Another friend, JK, said that during the years they spent growing up together, Oskar had “the most potential to be something great”.

A GoFundMe page has now been set up by close pal Lucas Harvey to help give Oskar “the best send-off possible”.

The fundraiser states: “Hello, my name is Lucas. I’m raising money for my dear friend Oskar, who tragically passed away aged just 21 after falling from the Newton Tower here in our hometown — a loss that has shaken everyone who knew and loved him.

“Oskar had no family close by, only his friends and those who cared for him.

“We are heartbroken and still coming to terms with losing someone so young and full of life.

“We started this fundraiser to give him the dignified send-off he deserves.

“We aim to cover costs to bring him home to his family, or arrange everything here if his mum prefers.

“She only moved here recently, has very little support and no means to cover this, so we want to step up and make sure he is honoured properly.

“Every donation, no matter how small, helps us reach our goal and lifts a huge weight from his mum’s shoulders at this impossible time.

“To everyone who has already helped or reached out: thank you. He was lucky to have people like you in his life.

“Rest in peace, Oskar – forever 21, forever loved, never forgotten.”

£806 has been raised towards the £3,500 target.
